This Privacy Policy explains how KAAM Today collects, uses, stores and shares personal information.
KAAM is operated by Basir Mahmood in the Netherlands. For applicable data-protection law, Basir Mahmood is the controller responsible for personal information processed through KAAM.
Privacy contact: kaamtoday@gmail.com
1. Information we collect
Depending on the features you use, KAAM may process:
- Your sign-in details: your name and email address from Apple or Google when you sign in with them, or your mobile phone number when you sign in with a one-time code.
- Authentication and session information.
- Profile name, @handle, title, profession, skills, experience, languages, About information, availability, city or area, profile type and, if you add them, a visiting address, visiting or contact hours and a CV.
- Profile photographs, work photographs, videos and portfolio posts.
- Professional and social links.
- Job posts, requirements, descriptions, locations and responses.
- Stories, and the views, likes, replies, shares and reposts of stories.
- Messages: text, voice messages, photos, videos, files, shared locations, invoices, lists and tasks, and cards for scheduled calls and finished calls.
- Call information: who called whom, when, whether it was audio or video, and how long it lasted. The audio and video of calls are not recorded.
- Classroom content and live-class participation, including chat in a live class and, when a teacher records a class, the recording.
- Game moves, drawings, scores and points in Make a Move.
- Invoice templates and invoice content, including business and client details, amounts, tax numbers and any bank account or other payment details you choose to add.
- Subscription status and purchase records for KAAM Pro, paid announcements and paid features (never your card details).
- Follows, connections, reports and blocked-user records.
- Optional precise location and derived approximate distance or area.
- Notification permission, push tokens and push-subscription information.
- Technical information needed for security, diagnostics and reliable operation, and privacy-friendly page-visit statistics on the website.
We do not ask users to create a password. You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a temporary one-time code. KAAM does not read your phone’s address book.
2. How sign-in works
You can sign in with Apple or Google. Apple or Google confirms who you are and shares your name and email address with KAAM (with Apple you may choose to hide your email). KAAM never receives your Apple or Google password.
Where available, you can instead sign in with a temporary one-time code sent to your phone number. Codes sent by WhatsApp are delivered through Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform; codes sent by SMS are delivered through Twilio. The code is used only for authentication and must never be shared with another person.
Your sign-in details are used to:
- Verify your identity.
- Create and maintain your account.
- Keep you signed in.
- Protect KAAM against misuse.
- Allow contact according to the privacy choices available in KAAM.
Other users do not receive your phone number unless you choose to share it through an available KAAM feature—for example, the call button a KAAM Pro business profile can show, which uses a phone number verified by WhatsApp code.
3. Profiles and public information
Information added to your professional profile may be visible to other KAAM users and, through your profile link, to anyone you share it with. This can include your name, @handle, profile photograph, title, profession, skills, experience, About information, work photographs and posts, links, availability and stated city or area.
When someone shares your profile link (for example on WhatsApp), a preview card with your name, @handle, title and profile photograph is shown in that app. The same card can be saved as an image (a “visiting card”).
If you add a visiting address and turn on the map pin, that address and its pin are shown on your profile. Otherwise your exact coordinates and authentication information are never displayed publicly.
KAAM uses your profile (title, skills and area) to suggest people and work to other users and to suggest relevant people and jobs to you.
Do not add information to your public profile that you do not want other KAAM users to see.
4. Posts, stories and sharing
Portfolio posts stay on your profile until you delete them. Others can like and comment on them.
Stories are visible for 24 hours. While a story is live, its author can see who viewed and liked it. Replies to a story are sent as messages. Others can share or repost your story with credit to you, and a story or job you share by link can be opened by anyone with that link while it is available.
5. Messages
Messages and their attachments are processed so they can be delivered to their intended recipients. If you share a link in a chat, KAAM may fetch that web page to show a preview.
- Voice messages are automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Photos and videos sent in chat are removed from our servers 30 days after the recipient first opens them. Copies already saved on a device are not affected.
- Text messages, files, invoices and other chat cards are retained while the relevant accounts remain active, unless they are deleted earlier.
- When you delete a chat, it is hidden for you; the other person keeps their copy.
When an account is permanently deleted, its associated messages are deleted.
Messages are encrypted in transit and access is restricted to the conversation’s members, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. Message content may be reviewed only where reasonably necessary to investigate a report, protect users, prevent misuse or comply with law.
6. Calls, live classes and guests
Audio and video calls, project calls, Promotion TV and live classes are carried in real time through LiveKit. KAAM does not record calls. A finished or missed call is shown as a card in the chat (call history).
On iPhone, KAAM uses Apple’s CallKit so incoming calls ring like phone calls. KAAM calls may then appear in your iPhone’s Recents list, which is controlled by your device.
A teacher can choose to record a live class. Everyone in the class sees a recording indicator while it is recording. Recordings are stored privately in our storage provider and only the teacher who made them can access or download them. Recordings are kept until the teacher asks us to delete them, including when they delete their account.
People without a KAAM account can join a class or a game through a guest link by entering a name. A guest’s name and participation are visible to others in that class or game. Classroom guest passes expire after 12 hours.
7. Precise location
Precise location is optional. KAAM asks for location permission only when you choose to use a location feature. KAAM does not continuously track you in the background.
How location is used
Your location may be used to:
- Rank relevant people and work opportunities by proximity.
- Display results near your current position.
- Allow other users to find you by approximate distance, and to see you on the map in an approximate area of about two kilometres, but only when you enable “Show me in nearby results.”
- Turn an address you type into a map position (address search).
Storage and visibility
Exact coordinates are stored privately and are never shown to other users. Other users may see only an approximate distance or area, never your coordinates or exact address—unless you choose to show a visiting address on your profile.
If current location is unavailable, KAAM may use the city or area saved in your profile as a less precise fallback.
Your controls
You can disable nearby visibility or remove your saved location from Settings → Location. Removing the saved location deletes the stored coordinates and removes you from nearby results.
8. Notifications
If you enable notifications, KAAM stores a device-specific push token or subscription so notifications and incoming calls can be delivered through Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) or your browser’s push service.
KAAM also sends in-app announcements from Kaam-Se, KAAM’s own account, to members.
The operating system controls notification permission. You can disable notifications through KAAM or your device settings.
Push-subscription information is not used for advertising and is deleted when it is no longer valid or when the associated account is deleted.
9. KAAM Pro and payments
KAAM Pro subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), or, where offered, by a web checkout provided through RevenueCat. RevenueCat keeps the record of which plan you have so KAAM can unlock Pro features.
KAAM never receives or stores your card or bank details. We receive only your subscription status, plan, renewal dates and purchase identifiers. KAAM also counts your use of limited features (such as live class time, invoices and game time) in each personal 30-day period.
A business that requests a paid announcement provides the announcement text, image and link, which are reviewed before Kaam-Se sends them to members.
10. Games, radio, voice input and assistants
- Make a Move games are played for points only. Your moves, scores and the people you play with are stored to run the game.
- KAAM Radio plays streams directly from third-party radio stations. Those stations can see your device’s IP address while you listen, as with any web stream.
- Voice input (for search or your CV) uses your device’s speech recognition, which may be processed by Apple or Google under their own terms.
- When search cannot understand a query, or when you ask KAAM to prepare your CV, the text of the query or the CV details you provide are sent to an AI model (OpenAI, through Vercel’s AI Gateway) to produce the result. KAAM does not use this text for any other purpose.
- Photos and videos you edit (for stories and posts) are processed on your device before upload.
11. Why we process your information
We process information where necessary to:
- Create and authenticate your account.
- Provide profiles, search, posts, stories, messaging, calls, classrooms, games, location and notification features.
- Display relevant people and opportunities.
- Process KAAM Pro subscriptions and paid features.
- Fulfil your requests and operate our agreement with you.
- Protect users and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
- Investigate reports and enforce the Terms of Use.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
- Improve the reliability and performance of KAAM.
Under the GDPR, we rely on: performance of our agreement with you (providing the features you use); our legitimate interests in keeping KAAM safe, secure and working well; your consent for optional permissions such as precise location, notifications, camera and microphone; and legal obligations where they apply.
Where processing depends on permission or consent—such as precise location or notifications—you may withdraw that permission through the app or device settings.
12. Service providers
We use service providers to operate KAAM. These may process information only as necessary to provide their services:
- Supabase: authentication, databases and file storage (including class recordings).
- Vercel: application hosting, delivery, website visit statistics and the AI Gateway.
- OpenAI (through Vercel): search interpretation and CV preparation, when used.
- Apple and Google: sign-in, push notifications, incoming-call alerts, speech recognition and in-app purchases.
- LiveKit: audio and video calls, live classrooms and class recordings.
- RevenueCat: KAAM Pro subscriptions and purchase records.
- Meta (WhatsApp): delivery of WhatsApp verification codes.
- Twilio: delivery of SMS verification codes.
- Google Maps and OpenStreetMap: address search and map tiles (your search text or the map area being viewed, not your account).
These providers may process information in countries outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate contractual or legal safeguards for international processing.
We do not sell personal information.
13. Information sharing
Information may be shared:
- With other users where you intentionally publish it or send it to them.
- With the service providers identified above.
- Where reasonably necessary to investigate abuse or protect a person.
- Where required by applicable law or a valid legal request.
- As part of a business reorganisation, provided appropriate privacy protections continue to apply.
We do not share exact location coordinates with other users.
14. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as needed to provide KAAM or meet legitimate security and legal requirements.
In particular:
- Voice messages are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Chat photos and videos are removed from our servers 30 days after the recipient first opens them.
- Stories disappear after 24 hours; the story and its files are then deleted, together with its views and likes.
- Text messages are kept while the associated accounts remain active.
- Class recordings are kept until the teacher asks us to delete them.
- Classroom guest passes expire after 12 hours.
- Profile information, avatars, work photographs, posts, saved location and active push subscriptions are kept while the account remains active.
- Invalid push subscriptions may be deleted automatically.
- Purchase records may be kept by Apple, Google and RevenueCat as required for their billing and legal obligations.
- When you permanently delete your account, its associated personal information is deleted. Copies may remain in routine encrypted backups for a limited period until they are overwritten.
15. Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from the Me section of KAAM.
Deleting the account removes its associated profile, photographs, messages, voice recordings, posts, saved location, links and notification subscriptions. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it in your store account.
You can also request deletion without the app through the KAAM website. See Account Deletion.
16. Security
KAAM uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information. Connections to the service use encrypted transmission, and access to private database and storage records is restricted through account-based access controls.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your phone, verification codes and account access.
17. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access personal information held about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated information.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Receive certain information in a portable form.
- Submit a complaint to a data-protection authority.
You can manage much of your information directly in KAAM, and you can block or report other users at any time. For other requests, contact: kaamtoday@gmail.com
Users in the Netherlands may contact the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch Data Protection Authority); users elsewhere in the European Economic Area may contact their own national data-protection authority.
18. Users under 18
KAAM is primarily intended for adults working in professional and creative fields.
A person under 18 should use KAAM only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian and should not share sensitive personal information, arrange unsafe meetings or make payments without adult involvement.
KAAM does not allow content that sexualises or endangers children. Such content is removed, the accounts involved are removed, and illegal material is reported to the appropriate authorities where required. If you believe a minor is using KAAM in an unsafe or unlawful manner, report it in the app or contact us.
19. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when KAAM’s features, providers or legal obligations change. Material changes will be communicated through the app or another appropriate method.
The effective date at the top identifies the latest version.
